The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the 21st Century Cures Act. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding passage of the bill:

"Today, the House acted to improve the development and discovery of life-saving cures and treatments for childhood cancer, Alzheimer's and thousands of other diseases; problems that plague the lives of so many people all around the world. The 21st Century Cures Act modernizes research and innovation to accelerate the path to cures and unleash the power of emerging science and technology. It also advances meaningful mental health reforms and provides resources to combat the opioid epidemic experienced in many regions of our country. By improving advancements in both public and private health care we can change the way we fight diseases and advance America's leadership in medical innovation.

"This bipartisan bill addresses a vital piece of our health care system by bringing the research, innovation and treatment components of health care into the 21st century. Next year, I also look forward to working with my Republican colleagues to further improve patient choice and the delivery of health care by repealing and replacing Obamacare."
